Krakow mounds
Photo gallery 1
Five Krakow mounds make the city a record holder in this respect. The Krakus and Wanda Mounds are the oldest, the Tadeusz Kościuszko Mound is much younger and the most popular, and the Józef Piłsudski Mound is the largest. The mounds in Kraków were dedicated to various figures and scattered in various parts of the city.
In Europe, mounds of various sizes and constructions were erected in prehistoric times. At that time, they served as burial places, as well as cult, defensive and observation functions. In most cases, their role is unknown. In later centuries, the mounds were erected as reminders of important historical events or to commemorate worthy people posthumously.
The mounds in Krakow are good vantage points. From each of them there is a panorama of different parts of the city.
