The most important Polish artists exhibited in an Art Nouveau building decorated with images of famous painters and sculptors.
The building from the beginning of the 20th century, in the spirit of Viennese Art Nouveau, was erected for the Society of Friends of Fine Arts founded in Kraków half a century earlier - in the gallery the most important Polish artists exhibited from the very beginning. Around the building there is a gilded frieze designed by the outstanding Young Poland painter Jacek Malczewski. It shows the symbolic fate of the creator: on one side we see happy figures, on the other - unhappy figures. On the side walls of the building there are busts of famous Polish painters and sculptors, and the façade above the entrance is crowned by the head of the patron of art, Apollo, in a sunny halo.
