Here you can see how Krakow has changed over the centuries, and in winter admire the famous, fabulously colorful Krakow's Szopki (nativity scenes).
The historic building in the corner of the Main Square is the headquarters of the Krakow Museum, which has several branches. The palace is decorated with a beautiful arcaded loggia in the courtyard, and its representative interiors have a baroque stucco decoration from the 17th century and 18th and 19th century polychromes. Legend has it that the palace cellars and dungeons reach as far as St. Mary's Church, and once housed an alchemical workshop. It is said that to this day you can meet a devil in the form of a rooster to lure daredevils into the underground, tempted by the promise of discovering the treasure...
The palace also hosts temporary exhibitions. Every year, in December, the museum organizes a competition of famous Kraków nativity scenes on the Main Square. In the palace, you can later watch the post-competition presentation of these fabulously colorful miniature buildings modeled on the most famous monuments and architectural details in the city.
