MICET Center for Theater Education

Museum

In the basement of the theater building at Jagiellońska Street there used to be the cult cafe "Maska", which was accessed by narrow, winding stairs. Krakow artists met here, and the directors and actors spent their time after rehearsals. The cafe was run by Tadeusz Huk, actor of the Stary Theater. On the other hand, from the side of Szczepański Square, where the exhibitions were organized, where the costumes, elements of the scenery and props from performances played on the stage of the Stary Theater were displayed. In 2017, both spaces - the cafe and the museum - were transformed into a modern Interactive Museum / Theater Education Center (MICET). It is a unique place where the artists working there are guides on the history and contemporary work of the Stary Theater. MICET presents recordings of interviews with the creators, fragments of the performances themselves and individual props, and above all, it allows you to plunge into the world of performances played in Stary. The applications, created especially for this place, allow visitors to create theatrical etudes based on directorial copies by Krystian Lupa, Andrzej Wajda or Krzysztof Warlikowski, design their own scenery or learn the secrets of creating music for performances. MICET runs a rich permanent educational offer, organizing workshops, lectures and guided tours.

At the Interactive Museum / Theater Education Center (MICET) at the National Stary Theater, visitors can learn about the fascinating history of Polish theater using interactive applications. This is a unique place that inspires and develops imagination. The 13th-century cellars house stage props and costumes, directors' libraries, and unique theater applications. Thanks to them - between tradition and experiment, craftsmanship and new technologies - you can get to know (and create!) Theater from the perspective of a director, actor, set designer, costume designer or author of soundtracks for selected performances. The films I have created: recordings of acting improvisations, musical remixes or set murals can be saved and shared online.
