Planty Krakowskie

Park

The term "planty" covers areas established in places of liquidated city fortifications or former river corridors. Planty Krakow is located in the heart of Krakow and is closed by the ring of Westerplatte street, św. Gertrude, Podzamcze, Straszewski, Podwale, Dunajewski and Basztowa. They are a historical park established in the historic part of the city. Planty is the oldest and one of the largest city park gardens in our Royal City. They consist of 8 gardens whose names refer to the buildings and places located in the vicinity - Barbican, Railway Station, Florianka, Gródek, Palace of Arts, Stradom, University or Wawel.

In this section with variable widths from 40 up to 120 m and 4 km long, there will be a place for everyone - parents with children, who can take advantage of the two created playgrounds as well as for enthusiasts of active leisure. Due to its location, the place is a green communication tunnel that is used by many locals and tourists. A walk along the Planty alleys is a specific lesson in the history of art and architecture. Ancient trees play a very important role as they are witnesses to history and a refuge of biodiversity. There are also flowers, flower beds, ponds and bridges. Among the greenery, there are many monuments that were erected when the trees were just beginning to grow. Following the trail of natural monuments - trees that are long-lived witnesses to the history of this special place, let's try to look at greenery from their perspective, trying to imagine the landscape that was in their vicinity several decades ago and changes with the next generations. This particular area has been placed on the 1st UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.
